All Saints Burbage - Men's Group

The Men of All Saints

Our Mission:
There is a thriving Men’s Group at All Saints Church in Burbage that holds events throughout the year—we regularly have up to 30 men attend our breakfasts and other gatherings.  Our desire is to lead a life that is pleasing to Christ.  Through the fellowship of other Christian men we aim to encourage one another to be men of prayer, devoted husbands and inspirational fathers.  We believe we can reach higher by challenging and inspiring one another to walk more closely with Jesus, and that by coming together we will be a force for good in our families, our church and our community.

Two words are at the root of all we do:  ENCOURAGE and CHALLENGE.  We want to encourage one another in our daily walk to be more like Jesus, and we want to motivate and challenge one another to reach higher in our desire to serve Him.  Two Bible verses encapsulate this:

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as we see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24, 25

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17

We believe that prayer partnerships are a valuable way of achieving these aims.

An invitation

We are keen to establish links with other churches in the Savernake Team so that our events can be promoted over a wider area. Any men from our team churches are invited to join us. If you would like to get in touch and find out more, we would love to hear from you. Please send an email to myself (Andrew) racmallinson@hotmail.com and I will put someone in touch with you, or contact you directly.

Men's Weekend Away in The Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park 2012

Men's Weekend Away in Seaton, May 2011

The 7th Annual Men's W/E away was held at Seaton, on the Devon / Dorset coastal border, and the intrepid twelve who came were treated to the usual wonderful hospitality from the owners of the Peacehaven guesthouse.

The beautiful setting, the breezy coastal walks, views of the ocean and (mainly) clear skies meant that we were once again exposed to God's creation in all its glory – and this provided a fitting backdrop to the men of Burbage forging friendships and deepening bonds.

With All Saints about to enter a period of inter-regnum the Men's Leadership Group believed this would be an excellent opportunity for us all individually to reassess our own faith, hence we chose as the spiritual theme for the weekend, 'An opportunity for Renewal', drawing our inspiration from Nicky Gumbel's excellent book, 'A Life Worth Living', accompanied by St Paul's letter to the Philipppians.

Thought-provoking talks from Chris Tawney, Robert de Berry and Andrew Mallinson on the subjects of: 'A New Heart, New Attitude and New Responsibilities' provoked a good deal of discussion and, we hope, led to further reflection on how we can all individually deepen our walk with Christ and how we might 'follow Him more nearly'.

Once again, this Men's Weekend Away proved to be a time of great camaradie among the men of Burbage with plenty of laughter and fun had by all, as well as providing a time for us all to reflect on our personal faith.

For anyone who might be reading this article who would be interested to hear more then please contact any of the Men's leaders, namely: Alan Brown, Dickie Davies, Peter Shelswell - all residents in Burbage – or Ralph Kennington, Andrew Mallinson or Jonathan Reynolds.

It is that time of year again, except a few weeks earlier!  This year the Men's Group weekend is a couple of weekends earlier and is Friday 27th – Sunday 29th April

The weekend will focus on the Lord's Prayer with three talks: 'your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven'; 'forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us'; 'give us today our daily bread'. How often have you said those words without really stopping to think what they mean; really mean?  Well here is your chance! The weekend is being held in the Brecon Beacons details of the accommodation are in the link below:
